BIOGRAPHY

Cheryl Freeman is a Broadway veteran best known for originating the role of the Gypsy in The Who’s Tommy. She first made her Broadway debut in the 1983 revival of Showboat. She then appeared in the Original Broadway Production as Sister Boxer in Amen Corner, followed by her iconic performance in The Who’s Tommy. Freeman went on to be a part of the Original Broadway Cast of Play On! as Vy. After the World Premiere production in Houston, Texas, Freeman came back to Broadway originating the role of Bessie Toler in The Civil War.

Off-Broadway credits include Fame on 42nd Street as Miss Esther Sherman, We’re Still Hot as Kate, Miracle Brothers as Felicidade, and Cougar the Musical as Clarity. Regionally she was featured in the World Premiere of Cole Porter’s The Pirate. Freeman is also featured in the animated classic, Disney’s Hercules, as Melpomene.
